Southeast Seattle Senior Center to Hold
Senior-Friendly Computer Classes This Summer

Do you know a senior who might really benefit from computer skills? SESSC is well known in the community as providing helpful and interesting resources to older adults in our neighborhood. And things at the center are about to get even more helpful and relevant! The center will host classes taught by Leslie Stewart, who has had recent successes in making computer skills easily accessible and lessons welcoming. Just think of the difference computer skills could make for a senior you know – access to family and community, resources and fun, all at their fingertips, no transportation needed. The class will also cover how to avoid scams and viruses.

Details:
Where: SESSC, 4655 S. Holly, Seattle WA 98118
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-11am, July 15 through 10/2
Fee: $3 per class, SESSC members, $5 nonmembers
How: Call SESSC at (206)722-0317 to with questions or register.

The course will be organized into two sessions, with Beginning starting 7/15/14 and Intermediate stating 8/26/14. Students are encouraged to follow through once they have begun a class, but it is OK to start at the intermediate level. Session one will cover computer basic facts, internet, email and word, with a deeper look and information about safety in the second session. Click on the link below to hear a real SESSC senior encourage class participation. SESSC gratefully acknowledges the City of Seattle Technology Matching Fund for making these classes possible.

True Feeling of the Holidays

SESSC members got the true feeling of the holidays this year when Rainier Beach High School students took time away from studying to give back to their community. They brought cookies to decorate together, and cards that they had made written friendly holiday greetings in. The students really connected with our members, and it was wonderful for all parties – some students said they were not in touch with grandparents, and were really glad to make the connection with our seniors. And some of our seniors live far from family, and were so glad the students had reached out! We look forward to more intergenerational activities with our community! Thanks Rainier Beach High students and Youth Development Specialist Yvette Avila!
